About

I’ve taken a long way round to writing and illustration, via an engineering career, working overseas, parenting, BA Fine Art studies and finally the MA in Children’s Book Illustration in Cambridge.

There must have been a quicker route, but I like variety and the unexpected as much as the ordinary, which are all important material for my stories.

Drawing, climbing trees and getting into trouble were important parts of my childhood. Story-making feels like a ‘homecoming’, where everything in life seems to come together. I am interested in creating narratives where the emotional responses of characters drive the plot. The power of stories to teach empathy is an important concept for me.

I work with a variety of media, anything that makes a mess, but currently, I am most at home with just a pencil or charcoal in my hand, or delighting in colour, mono-printing and experimenting in the print room.

My favourite places are mountain tops, art galleries and home in Oxfordshire with my family and cats.
